4 Common Roku Issues and How to Fix Them | Roku Support

Roku is a sought-after name in media streaming world. It offers great content and a number of products at affordable price. However, like modern electronic devices, the Roku player also faces some technical snags in it. This is why, our Roku Support experts at GlobalTech Squad have rounded up some of the common issues and their solution on how to fix them. Most noteworthy, not every Roku device will face these problems, and in fact, it is more than likely, you will not face any of the below mentioned problems at all. We have mentioned some common Roku issues below, if you find your device facing these problems then only try to follow the troubleshooting steps.

Problem 1- Roku Remote not Working

Roku product comes with simple IR remote but, you may face some difficulties getting remote connected to the device or connection dropping. To overcome this problem follow below mentioned troubleshooting steps instructed by our Roku Support experts.

Solution

The first and foremost thing is to check that battery is working. Our Roku Support experts recommend using a new pair of battery before proceeding further.
If you are facing frequent connection drop, try to clear the settings and re-pair remote again. To do so, first of all unplug the Roku player and remove the battery compartment from remote. Press and hold Home and Down button (or A and B button, depending on the remote) and press Pairing button in battery compartment while still holding the first two button. If LED light starts flashing release all the buttons. There will be three more LEDs which indicate that remote pairing is successful. Now connect the player, put remote into pairing mode by pressing pairing button, you will see the pairing notification on the screen once the player reboots completely.
Heavy congestion and your residential location may cause interference.  Go to Google PlayStore and download Wi-Fi Analyzer from your Android device to find a traffic free channel. Our Roku Support expert recommend channel 1,6, or 11 as they have no overlapping frequencies. Check the user manual of your Wi-Fi to find out how to change the channel.
The Roku Stick comes with a regular IR remote. However, the Stick plugs into the HDMI port, which may cause issues when using the remote.

Problem 2- No Audio Problem

Sometimes you may face no sound issues while streaming video. Follow the below-mentioned steps recommended by our Roku Support team

Solution-

No sound issues are generally caused because of enabling wrong settings. To fix this issues go to Settings and then Audio. If you are using optical cable for output to a receiver then set the audio mode to Dolby Digital and if you are using HDMI to the TV and optical to AVR, set the audio to Dolby Digital or DD+.

Problem 3- Red LED Flashing on Roku Express and Express+

If you see red LED lighting up on the Roku Express and Roku Express+, follow the below mentioned troubleshooting steps recommended by Roku Support experts of GlobalTech Squad.

Solution

Flashing red LED means that device is not getting proper power supply. Make sure that you are using only the power plug cord and adapter provided with device. Check If the device is plugged into a power strip, try to plug it directly into a wall outlet to see if that works. If it works that means you need to use a new power strip.
If LED light is solid (not blinking), it means device is overheating. Therefore, power off the device and let it cool down for a while before reboot. To avoid overheating make sure you place Roku device is not placed upon setup box, router, or AVR receiver as well as avoid placing the player inside a cabinet or other enclosed places.

Problem 4 - “This HDMI input does not support HDCP 2.2” error message when enabling 4K

Many users come across the above error message when they try to enable 4K for the first time. To get over this error notifications follow the below mentioned steps.

Solution

If you are enabling 4K for the first time, something to keep in mind is that every device used in Roku player and TV has to be HDCP 2.0 compatible.
If you are connecting to the Roku player through an AVR, AVR must be compatible.
